Pavones Surf Club — Surf Shop in Pavones, Costa Rica

Surf clothing, boardshorts, leashes, fins, wax — everything you need for the second longest left-hand wave in the world.

The shop

A surf shop
built for Pavones

Pavones Surf Club is a small, locally run shop stocked with the things that actually matter here: light layers for hot mornings, boardshorts that dry on the walk back, and the hardware that keeps you in the water instead of on the beach.

Walk in, talk surf, get sorted. You'll find us right on the main road between Pilón and the centre of Pavones, on the same property as Super Cocal Amarillo (Sumary) — an easy stop on the way to the point.

The wave

The second longest
left on earth

Only Chicama in Peru runs longer. When a south swell lines up here, Pavones turns on: a cobblestone point that walls up past the Río Claro river mouth and peels for 800 metres to a kilometre — jungle on one side, the Golfo Dulce on the other. Rides are measured in minutes, not seconds, and the paddle back is long enough that most people walk the beach instead.

It stays that way because the road in is long and the town is small. Six-plus hours from San José, dirt roads, howler monkeys at dawn, one lineup, a lot of patience — that's the deal. Respect the locals, wait your turn, and Pavones gives back more than most places ever will.
